WHERE to STay
Camping Options
To enable more time for socialising and comparing route choices and performances camping has been arranged at Orton Bradley and on a farmlet just back from the beach at Le Bons Bay. Camping facilities at both locations are basic, so people will be expected to be self sufficient.
Both camp sites have limited capacity so will be on a first come first serve basis.
Orton Bradley
Has flush toilets and limited showers. Very limited cooking facilities, so best if you are self contained.
See the Orton Bradley site for more details (NOTE: the camping fees shown on this site are not correct. The actual fees are Adults $12 per night, children (under 15) $5 per night, which includes gate entry).
Le Bons Bay
We have arranged to camp on a property just back from the beach. Most of the evening activities will be centered at the domain by the beach, which has a hall (unfortunately the domain is not available for camping on holiday weekends).
Long drops will be provided for toilets at the camping area. There are no showers (so bring solar showers).
There are no cooking facilities, but there is an option of an evening meal ($20 per head).
The road in to Le Bons is steep and windy, so could be challenging for camper vans.
Non-Camping Options
If camping is not your thing then we would suggest staying in Christchurch or Lyttelton on the Friday night, and then Akaroa on the Saturday night. Akaroa is likely to be quite busy on a holiday weekend so we would advise booking early.
